Last week, I was up high up, looking at Pendle from afar. This weekend I walked up and over Brown Hill and down through the woods and fields to Barley and Pendle was close up in front of me. It was stunning.... even if the sun didn't break through. Sometimes, in life, the sun doesn't break through and you keep thinking "When this cloud passes, then the sun will shine." But then the clouds join up.............. Even when life is cloudy, keep setting those goals. Focus on one goal at a time and make small steps towards it every day. Get yourself a coach who can hold you accountable and keep you positive, even on those cloudy days. It's good to set off with a goal in sight, in fact if you don't have a goal, you're likely to never actually get anywhere. On Sunday, Pendle was my goal. Did I park in Barley, or even closer on the road up and out of Barley? Then I could have been on that infamous path up in 15 mins? No..... I wanted to savour the approach, drink in the view from Hollin top, drop down and look up at it across Black Moss reservoir. I wanted to warm those muscles up, pushing up Stang Top Road from Roughlee. I wanted to stop and look at the blackberries green and growing amongst the pink campion and the dog rose. I wanted to sit at the top of a meadow and watch wood pigeons take off in flight as I sipped my flask coffee. I wanted to breath deep and say "thanks world for letting me live in the midst of all this beauty". No need to rush at the goal. No need to always have sunshine. Take pleasure in the journey, smell the roses, sip your coffee, sit in a meadow. Whatever journey you are on and whatever your personal goal; balance the hard work of the journey with time to reflect and time to 'just be'. Make time to stop, look up from your desk, grab your trainers and head for the outdoors and - even if it's cloudy, smile!
